Ordinary

Not often does it bother me when politicians spout
When those who are the monied type , throw insults all about
But I’m getting rather sick and tired, of the latest trend in fashion
Those would be’s if they could be’s undermining Aussie Passion’

It may be unintentional, these folks to give ‘em due
May be blissfully in ignorance that they insult me an’ you
When they get up on their soapbox and to the whole world scream
A term , that is , in my books , so totally obscene.

They puff their chests and gaze about, like an over rated star
But I think it’s time we let ‘em know , they’ve gone too flamin’ far
When they use that condescending tone and in terminology
Refer to us ‘ The Battlers”—-as to them “THE ORDINARY”

Now when you think about it , this term is so degrading
In English language “Lower Rank” our sense of pride is fading
But hold on a bit , how can they say, that the man out on the street
Is any less a human if he’s strugglin’ to make ends meet?

In fact, his store of fortitude, is wholesome that’s for sure
And those who scorn the underdog, prob’ly need a good deal more.
And I would hope on judgement day that the balance of criteria
Would not depend on your Wallet size, to assess if you’re inferior

Now take the folk who live outback, struggling just to live
They suffer drought, they stave off floods, their souls they have to give
The cloud of threat hangs overhead — foreclosure from the banks
But they carry on regardless, with little hope of thanks.

And who can say our tradesmen, hardworking everyday
Just to meet the mortgage and bills they need to pay
Are (as the rich in monetary terms would have us to believe)
Just a bunch of “Ordinary“ folk whom they can cheat and deceive .

Volunteers who give up precious time get the rough end of the stick
Aborigines , the Unemployed and Nurses who care for the sick
All of these people each play their part, no matter how small it may be
But now it is time for us to rebel and shout , “We’re not ordinary!”

‘Tis the citizens round our country ,who set out to corrupt and deceive
Who play with the truth quite lightly and bribes and sly pay offs receive
Who use their positions of power, to “rip off “ the old and the young.
Who’ll go to all lengths to extract a quid, in fact till the fat Lady’s sung

These, are the “ORDINARY “ parasites whose Patron Saint is “DOUGH”
Not the little Aussie bleeder who’s prepared to have a go
These corporate conglomerations are destroying our legacies
Importance of huge profits, a slow malignancy

So if you ‘re an individual, who’s doing the best that you can
And you have regard for those in need and the plight of your fellow man
Keep battling on. Keep right on track , We’ll have to win some day
And Integrity and Honesty, will always show the way!
