The Verse of William Ogilvie

William Ogilvie was born in Scotland in 1869 and came to Australia at the age of 20. He lived here for 12 years before returning to Scotland. He spent a considerable amount of time in Western Queensland and is reputed to have been a good friend of Harry "Breaker" Morant. I find his verse to be particularly graphic in its form and you can actually imagine quite clearly what he is writing about. Would have to be my favourite....

Ogilvie was recently honoured with one of his previously unpublished poems gracing a giant stone outside the Stockmans' Hall of Fame in Longreach.

Drought
The Bush, My Lover
The Brumbies
The Filling of the Swamps
The Last Muster
The March of the Flood
The Riding of the Rebel
The Stockyard Liar
